Imani’s place has launched a new program dedicated to supporting African descent youth and their mental health. We are aware of the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has had on the Black community, and the need for Mental Health is critical. The (crisis line name) will be working to establish a free 12-hour hotline that will be provide Black youth in the Simcoe area with crisis support, counselling, referrals, mental health education and more. We are looking to hire a Youth Counsellor to join the team.  Hours: 20 hours a week Duration: November 2020 (with possible extension) Outreach and community engagement with the Simcoe Black community Developed new strategies for community outreach, and community engagement aimed at empowering Black youth Planning community conferences focusing on mental health and wellness education, and open discussion Respond to crisis calls by phone/virtual communication outlet to clients with varieties of mental health concerns such as anxiety/stress, depression, isolation, suicidal ideation, trauma, social isolation, and/or chronic mental illness Provide clients with trauma-informed assessment and crisis support, treatment plan, and appropriate referrals Assess risk and severity with the use of standard psychometric tests; Provide client/caller with mental health support and crisis counselling Conducting referring client to appropriate follow up agencies Creating lasting relationship with follow up agencies such as shelters, hospitals, mental health professionals, and mobile crisis intervention teams Create and develop case plans centered around crisis prevention, treatment plans, and rehabilitation teams Provide suicide prevention and brief supportive counseling to callers who are in emotional distress Adhere to program’s policies & procedures Manage interactions with clients to ensure appropriate level of support is provided in an efficient manner Document and collect case notes for each call
