Train and work as a Home Support Worker in Barrie and surrounding area 

Candidates, who successfully complete our four (4) week full-time paid training program, at no cost to them, may be offered work as a Home Support Worker within our health care team.  Under the supervision and support of a regulated health care professional, you will be assigned to selected patients in their homes.  Tasks may include assisting with personal care, respite care, light housekeeping, and other activities of daily living.  As a Saint Elizabeth employee, you will have opportunities for knowledge exchange and ongoing education, training and professional development.

 This training program has been designed to provide you with all of the knowledge and skills you need to be successful.

 This training program includes the following:

  • Four (4) weeks of PAID HSW ( Home Support Worker) Training

    • Monday to Friday 9:00AM to 3:00PM

    • Need to be available for an 8 hour shift (for 19 paid placements) between the hours of 6am and 11pm.

  • Five (5) months of PSW (Personal Support Worker) Training

    • Monday to Friday 11:00AM to 4:00PM

    • You can continue to work as an HSW while going to school as a PSW

  • Activities of personal care

  • Household management

  • General support

  • Comfortable taking direction and working independently

  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational skills and agility within a changing environment

  • Demonstrated ability to recognize safety concerns 


  • Ability to travel and attend meetings to support the needs of the patient

  • Experience using a computer or tablet to communicate effectively

  • Having a valid driver’s license and vehicle is required

  • Proof of updated required Immunizations (MMR, Varicella/Zosters, HepB, Tetanus and Tuberculosis)

  • Standard First Aid, CPR C, and AED
