General Description: Load and secure new vehicles onto rail car

Hours : 30+ hours (Call-In & Wknd Availability)

Shift: Days Rate of Pay: $16.00/hr Special Requirements :

• Capable Heavy Lifting

• Comfortable Working at Heights & in Tight Spaces

• Competently Drive Manual Vehicles

Essential Duties:

• Drive new customer vehicles onto rail cars from staging lines in a safe and efficient manner

• Secure new vehicles to rail cars by using chains or chocks as required by manufacturer

• Set-up rail car bridge plates

• Raise and lower rail car decks

• Open/Close rail car doors

• Operate loading ramps

• Check vehicles for damage

• Drive vehicles to/from staging areas

• Various duties as assigned or required to help the facility function in a team environment

• Adhere to all ALPC and AAR safety standards

• Train new employees and temporary workers

• Ability to react to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned

Working Conditions

• Work is performed out doors in all weather conditions.

• Work with a team of other rail associates

• Work in tight spaces on railcars

  • Standing -10% of time - Waiting for van, opening doors, setting plates
  • Walking - 40% of time - vehicles in load lines and through rail cars
  • Sitting - 50% of time - Driving Vehicles
  • Lifting <50 lbs. -Setting Bridge Plates,
  • Carrying <50 lbs. -Carrying bridge plates
  • Pushing <85 lbs. -Opening or closing Rail car doors
  • Pulling <85 lbs. -Open/close rail doors; release/secure tie-down
  • Climbing - all day long;Rail car ladders Balancing - all day long Rail car ladders

Skills Required

Minimum Requirements :

• Grade 12 diploma

• Valid full "G" driver’s license with clean driving record

Competently drive manual transmission

• Successful completion of Pre-placement Medical.

• Able to follow directions, both written and verbal

• Able to drive both standard and automatic automobiles

• Able to adhere to strict quality standards without variance

• Good visual ability

• Knowledge of the use of hand tools wrenches, screw drivers, ratchets, etc.)

• Ability to read and understand MSDS

• Must have a good sense of balance

• Able to work at a height approximately 15 feet above the ground

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds over head

• Able to push, pull, or carry up to 85 pounds

• Able to pass Safe Driving, Rail and Buck Ramp quizzes with 80% accuracy or better

• Able to stand, walk, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
