Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Distiller

Location: Alliston, Ontario

Job Details: Permanent, Full time, flexible schedule. Start Date May 1st, 2019.

 Overview

The Assistant Distiller is responsible for the creation of Beattie’s Distillers spirits using existing recipes and processes, in accordance with production requirements. The Assistant Distiller is responsible for ensuring product quality and consistency as well as timely fulfillment of LCBO orders. The Distiller also plays a key role in product promotion through public tours, sampling/community events and customer communication.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 Distillation

  • Distill Beattie’s Distillers spirits using existing processes, recipes and equipment
  • Ensure equipment cleaning and maintenance procedures take place in accordance with established procedures, reporting issues or requirements to the Distiller
  • Work with the Distiller to ensure the spirit inventory is updated as required
  • Maintain ongoing product quality under the direction of the Head Distiller
  • Maintain process logs for distillation
  • Research and maintain knowledge of current product or distillation trends
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Must be able to consistently lift 50lbs
  • Ability to work flexible hours is considered as asset

 

Housekeeping

  • Preserve and protect the business values of the company, and support the business mission as required
  • Distillery cleaning and maintenance as required
  • Product Quality Assurance processes as requested
  • General equipment maintenance as required
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping within the distillery building
  • Adherence to all stated OH&S procedures and practices and PPE requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Brand Promotion

  • Participate in consumer sampling events as a Beattie’s Distillers ambassador
  • Provide tours to the public ensuring detailed explanation of the products and the distillation process
  • Greet and serve tourists/guests who enter the Distillery seeking product information
  • Sell products to tourists/guests who visit the Distillery

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Relevant Science / Food Science education preferred
  • 2+ years in a production environment, preferably in a brewery, distillery, or winery
  • Ability to communicate and receive technical instructions (verbal and written)
  • Writing and math skills necessary to accurately complete dilution calculations, volume, weight, pressure, alcohol content, and other unit conversions
  • Mechanical aptitude – knowledge of machinery and systems
  • Ability to earn forklift certification
  • Ability to work independently, and with others

 

Compensation

$22.00 - $24.75 per hour, depending on experience.
