Position Status: Part Time Pay Method: Hourly Normal Work Week: Contract may range from 15-30 hours. Includes some Saturdays and some evenings Location: Angus and Thornton Branches Purpose and Scope Support the CEO, Manager and Coordinators in the effective operation of the Library. Provide and continuously evaluate Public Services to activate the Library’s Mission to Connect people, Grow ideas, and Inspire discovery. Deliver outstanding Customer Service at both library branches under the direction of the Manager. Provide robust Program Support under the direction of the Manager & Coordinator of Children and Family Experiences. Participate in Library Support Services under the direction of the Coordinator of Facility and Support Services. Cross train for Support Services and Technical Services as required. Responsible for Health & Safety on a Worker level. Duties Report to Manager Support dynamic Library Services, Programs & Spaces in conversation with the CEO, Manager, and Coordinators, and suggest ideas to improve workflows. Nurture a welcoming, inclusive public environment. Deliver meaningful Customer Service throughout the library: program support, library-space care & activation, including roving assistance. Offer comprehensive services at the Circulation Desk: community orientation, program insight, sale of fundraising items, and registering new patrons to the library. Digital Literacy: assist library users with public computers, multiple software applications, 3D printing, and technology queries including one:one technical training to public in 30 minute appointments as scheduled. Reference Services: provide expert guidance to library materials and databases to search and retrieve requested information and present results that are clear and appropriate in scope. Reader’s Advisory: Interview patrons and access the collection, databases and electronic resources, e-books and e-audio books to assist users with choosing popular and recreational reading, viewing and listening choices ZPortal software for Inter-Library Loan orders from elsewhere in the Province Receive payment in cash or through Interac for overdue fees, card replacement, lost and damaged library materials, non-resident fees, printing, facility rental; bus passes, township dog licenses, and garbage bag tags. Participate in and support Library Outreach efforts to enrich the Essa Community. Remove items from collection and stream to fundraising options as directed. Courier items to each Branch and to Essa Township Office. Required to update skills through courses and training each year. Coordinator of Children and Family Experiences Communicate program opportunities and support execution of Library Programs as requested. Coordinator of Facility and Support Services Participate in Collection maintenance (shelving, shelf-reading, and inventory) to ensure library items are organized and accessible. Support timely requests for repair of supporting technologies: email services, phones, photocopiers, the Integrated Library System, computers and other significant equipment maintained by IT support. Process new collection items; repair used collection items as needed. Cross-train for SOLS VDX Inter-Library Loan backend software. Library Technician Cross-Train for life-cycle tracking of library items: acquisitions, receiving, cataloguing, inventory reports, de-selection reports and removal from database. Receive shipments of library materials. Participate on the Township of Essa Joint Health and Safety Committee as required. Other duties as deemed necessary by CEO, Manager and/or Coordinators. Health & Safety Learn, understand, practice and support standard operating procedures Be familiar with and comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and the Library Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. Report contraventions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or Regulations or Library Health and Safety Policies and Procedures to the CEO or Manager. Identify and report unsafe acts or conditions or health and safety concerns immediately to the CEO, Manager or a Joint Health and Safety Committee member. Participate on the Township of Essa Joint Health and Safety Committee as required. Human Resources Supervise Summer Program Assistants and Volunteers as necessary. Financial Resources Receive payment from public for library services when applicable. Forecast sundry supply needs in the preparation of the Budget. Material Resources Use a variety of office equipment and technologies to support library services and public training: Computers, 3D printer, Vinyl Printer, iPads. Skill & Effort - Knowledge Customer Service Experience required. Post-secondary degree/diploma required. Additional Library Sector courses or library experience considered an asset. Knowledge of: Ontario Public Library Guidelines, Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation, Health & Safety Regulations, Accessible Customer Service requirements, and Essa Public Library Policy & Procedures. Digital Competency in automated library applications, including multiple software applications and Cloud Environments for program and circulation tasks. Digital Literacy to assist library users with public computers, multiple software applications, 3D printing, and technology queries. Team Building skills to foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. Independent work habits with strong organizational and time management skills, supported by competent problem solving abilities. Excellent English language oral and written communication skills. French language skills an asset. CPR and First Aid certificates. Skill & Effort - Physical Manual dexterity to operate office equipment Ability to view computer screen for prolonged periods of time Routine movement of carts and/or boxes containing library materials. May be required to load vehicle with several boxes of library materials and drive between branches in various weather conditions. Required to move furniture and wall partitions to support library events. Seasonal: Shovel snow from Library walkways and spread deicer to maintain safe access as required Interpersonal Skills: In all exchanges, interact in a courteous and effective manner. Internal Communicate with staff, volunteers, and program partners in a clear and effective manner. Model leadership and positive problem-solving on a daily basis. External Occasionally de-escalate interactions at the public service desks. Interact with representatives from Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School, Simcoe County Library Cooperative, the Southern Ontario Library Service, Community Organizations and Vendors. Support public queries, Reference Questions and Library Orientation Engage in meetings, workshops and Conferences as time permits. Offer technical assistance to patrons in clear language. Decision Making & Judgement Work is performed in accordance with established policies under the management of the CEO. Additional judgement and decision-making is exercised in: Cross-training peers on individual duties and assigning tasks when away. Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and ensure seamless quality service to public. Guide volunteers duties when required. Recognize health and safety hazards and taking appropriate action to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, and the public. Working Conditions: Physical Environment Works 97% indoors in a clean, climate-controlled environment Works 3% in other venues (training, meetings and conferences) Some outdoor work to clear snow from Library walkways or distribute ice-melt. Mental Environment Work in a customer-driven environment with frequent interruptions Work to professional standards in a self-directed environment. Occasional exposure to unpredictable or intimidating behaviour by members of the public with potential to escalate into an unsafe situation. May participate in de-escalating these situations. Work schedule is pre-determined by the CEO and will require some Saturday and evening shifts and some short-notice adjustments to maintain service levels.
